17mm Ancient Coin with Bee

Obv: Bee with straight wings. Rev: Stag standing right, palm behind.

An exceptional and rare coin representative of the Artemis (Goddess of the hunt, animals, vegetation, and childbirth) and her twin brother Apollo (God of archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, sun and light) who were believed to have been born under a palm tree.

The Athenians who came to colonize Ionia were lead by the Muses, who took the shape of bees. Artemis's priestesses were called Melissai or "bees" of the goddess.

Coin is celebratory of nature and abundancy.
