21mm Ancient Coin with Romulus & Remus
In Roman mythology – Romulus and Remus were the twin sons of a human mother and the god of war – Mars. Their death was ordered by King Amulius, who demanded they drown in the Tiber River. Instead, the twins were placed in a basket and sent down the river, where they washed ashore at the site of the future Rome. Rescued by a she-wolf, who nursed them until they were found and adopted by a shepherd and his wife. The twins later went on to kill King Amulius, reinstating their maternal grandfather, Numitor, as the King of Alba Longa. The twins went on to build a city (Rome) along the Tiber River where they were rescued. Romulus eventually consolidated his power by killing his twin, Remus, eventually naming Rome after himself.
