Sapphire Triptych Drops
In the vast cathedrals and intimate chapels of Renaissance Italy, gilded triptychs opened like precious cabinets, revealing highly composed worlds of color, symbolism, and devotion. Giovanni Bellini's Frari Triptych, completed in Venice in 1488, is a particularly beautiful example, its three painted panels, delicate gold framework, and saturated colors united in a single composition.
Our Triptych Drops feature Australian sapphires of deep, ecclesiastical green. Their color is intense and pure, with the richness of mineral pigments and sumptuous velvets.
The courts of Renaissance Italy had an appetite for beauty that extended well beyond the walls of their churches. Jewels were commissioned, collected, exchanged, inherited, and worn. They belonged to the intimate business of living, with all its ceremonies, affections, vanities, and pleasures. We find that appetite entirely relatable.
