Turquoise Cassia Bracelet

For the first time in months, the calendar held an empty afternoon. No meetings. No deadlines. No family arriving at the house. Sunlight spilled across the conservatory floor. A stack of unread books waited beside a chair. Several orchids had begun sending up new flower spikes. The garden beyond the glass was just beginning to recover from winter.

The bracelet rested beside her teacup. Sleeping Beauty turquoise, uninterrupted blue, punctuated by natural pink sapphires. She fastened it before settling into the chair with a long awaited book.  The turquoise smooth against her wrist as she turned a page.  Outside, new growth appeared at the edges of the garden. Inside, the afternoon remained entirely her own.
