Emerald Alina Ring
The dining table had been extended twice. Platters passed from hand to hand. Wine glasses stood in loose clusters along the linen runner. A baby shifted from one set of arms to another while cousins gathered near the open doors leading to the garden. Three generations gathered, conversations rising and overlapping before dissolving into laughter.
She moved easily among them. A hand on a shoulder. A fresh glass of wine delivered before it was requested. A chair pulled closer to the table. The emerald ring flashed when she reached for a serving spoon and again when she lifted the baby from her daughter’s arms - the green always vivid in the warm light of her home. For a moment, the child closed a hand around her finger before settling against her shoulder.
