20mm Ancient Coin with Pegasus

On this Roman Republican silver denarius, the obverse presents the head of Mutinus Titinus, an ancient Italic deity later identified with Priapus,  wearing a winged diadem. The figure’s expression is serene yet watchful, a vestige of a tradition whose origins stretch back before Rome’s rise to empire. On the reverse, Pegasus, the winged horse of myth, prances with poised energy, its form both elegant and untamed. Struck under the moneyer Q. Titius, the coin’s imagery would have evoked themes of divine favor, swiftness, and triumph... qualities celebrated in both the arena of sport and the realm of legend.

That these images endure so vividly after more than two millennia is nothing short of remarkable. The coin may once have moved through the hands of traders, soldiers, or statesmen, carrying with it the weight of symbolic meaning.  Today, transformed into a pendant, it offers more than adornment. To wear it is to step into the long continuum of history and myth, keeping close a small fragment of the world that once was.
